BigScoots: How I Love Thee

BigScoots is not only my favorite web hosting company, it’s one of my favorite companies of all-time. All-time, I say!

I knew starting a blog would come with many challenges, including the technical stuff. When I researched what hosting services would work well with WordPress, BigScoots continued to rise to the top.

This page contains affiliate links, which means I may receive a commission if you make a purchase through my affiliate link at no extra cost to you. My recommendations are always items I buy or totally want to buy!

The Host With the Most

BigScoots is a managed web hosting team of experts that keeps your blog or website running smoothly. Because they actually do what they say they do, they get lots of glowing reviews.🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

I initially used another hosting model with my first website, however decided to try something different with katstano.com by creating a self-hosted WordPress.org blog. And to manage my blog, BigScoots was the secret sauce!

Smooth Operators

My favorite thing about BigScoots is that when you email them, it feels like emailing a friend. They write right back! They’re nice.

I’ve corresponded with many of the same people multiple times and it’s always fun to see a familiar name pop into my inbox.

Plus, I’ve never once felt dismayed or hopeless after I’ve submitted a help ticket. BigScoots always comes through and fixes the issues so I can have more confidence in building my blog.

Affordable Pricing

The starter plan is a lot more affordable than you’d imagine! I think it’s especially reasonable with the exceptional customer service they provide, no matter how large or small your site is.

FAQs About BigScoots

Why did you initially choose BigScoots?

Other bloggers who had built very successful websites highly recommended BigScoots. While I could’ve gone with a cheaper, more beginner-level web hosting service, I didn’t want to chance it when it came to tech help. Because I need LOTS of tech help!

What are your favorite things about BigScoots?

From Day One, I’ve received excellent, quick, and personalized service.

  • You ALWAYS talk to a human. And when you have lots of questions, you get to talk to the same humans many times!
  • These humans are consistently friendly, kind, respectful, knowledgeable, and professional. And VERY smart.
  • They’re so good about fixing problems.
  • And they’ve fixed A LOT of my problems.
  • Their response time is SO FAST. No, faster than fast. Once you start a new ticket, they respond automatically then, soon after, a human follows up with an email that they’re checking on the issue.
  • I trust them. Because they’re reliable. Because they’re on top of things.
  • They’re empathetic when I ask questions that a three-year-old probably knows the answers to.
  • They’re so awesome that I’m frequently telling people who’ll never start a website that, “If you ever start a website, you HAVE to go with BigScoots!”

How much does BigScoots cost?

For one blog, I pay $34.95 per month. But they have other plans depending on the size of your business and various elements you need, like extra storage or backup.

You can also buy your website domain(s) from them.

Does BigScoots have an affiliate program?

Yes! You can sign up any time after you set up your hosting plan.

What tech level should I be at to start a blog?

Tech does not come naturally to me and I even started a blog! Actually, technology is such the bane of my existence that my motto has become, “Why won’t this WORK?!”

It all started, one day, when I was pointing my Christmas tree lights remote control in the total wrong direction. Frustrated, I exclaimed, “Why won’t this WORK?!” Once Jon, the one who promised for better or for worse (which is always worse when tech is involved), showed me how to actually use a remote control…the light bulbs came on. Literally!

Because I push lots of buttons and all the wrong ones, it has become quite apparent that “Why won’t this WORK?!” is something I say A LOT…and a theme in this house that’s usually funny. (Usually🤣)

I chose BigScoots because when I’m building my blog and yell out, “Why won’t this WORK?!”, I know that I have a trustworthy group that’s got me.

So, if the digital world intimidates you, but you have a creative, passionate heart and a voice that needs to be heard, don’t give up. There are helpers out there who genuinely do help.

What are some examples of things BigScoots has helped you with?

  • Setting up my purchased WordPress.org theme. This was HUGE.
  • Fixing code or giving me the info on how to resolve it.
  • Checking broken links.
  • Adding rules into my blog like setting all links or headings to bold.
  • Guiding me with new widgets or having tips to customize them.
  • Showing me ways to access certain features on my blog.
  • Helping me adjust mobile settings.
  • Resizing embedded videos.
  • Adding alt descriptions.
  • Clearing the cache.
  • Verifying my website for things like Pinterest & Google AdSense.
  • Stuff I can’t even explain but they fixed it.
  • Assuring me I haven’t erased my entire website.
  • Offering kind reminders to contact them anytime I need help🩷

Final Thoughts About BigScoots

I love BigScoots for many reasons, but it’s the human connection at the center of their work that makes them shine. Especially in this world where bots and AI and even people who don’t give a crap seem to reign supreme, it’s very, very refreshing to have individuals to go to who know their stuff and are nice about it.

If you like personalized attention…

If you like efficiency…

If you’re from the 1900s and remember walking inside a store and being helped with a smile…

I’d say BigScoots would be a fine fit for you.

There are all sorts of tiny ones living their live There are all sorts of tiny ones living their lives among us, quietly, softly. And if we stop to notice, it can help us to live a little softer, too.

I hope you find many miracles this fall to gently touch your heart♥️🍁

This fall, maybe we all can be lazy for the earth! This fall, maybe we all can be lazy for the earth! Leave the leaves! 🍁🍂🍁

“Say, girl, what are you even talking about now?”

Instead of raking and bagging up every leaf, let them stay.

Let them stay in flower beds or make a new flower bed with your leaves!

Let them be mulch for your trees!

Let them lightly pile up in corners for critters and pollinators to survive the winter🩷🦋🐝🐞🐰🩷

How do you do this and avoid the wrath of the neighbors? Maybe let them know what you’re doing and why. Maybe they’ll join in, too! (Or not!)

“And again, WHY am I doing this?”

Fallen leaves are nature’s way of taking care of itself. Nutrients for the soil and plants, places to lay eggs for butterflies, and little leafy blankets for wildlife…it’s all connected!

If you have lots of leaves and don’t know where to start, leave a note in the comments and I’ll try my best to share some ideas🩷🩷🩷

It’s fall and I love y’all!💛🧡♥️

I read Reason For Hope by Dr. Jane Goodall earlier I read Reason For Hope by Dr. Jane Goodall earlier this year. I actually listened through audiobooks which was even better because I could hear her gentle, English voice sharing her wisdom with me.

Jane was a kindred spirit to animals and nature…a pure soul. That’s why I was so drawn to her: her kindness, her sincerity, her bravery to love in a world that doesn’t always love us back.

But she is so loved. And we can show that love through our actions just like she did.

Pollinators need us. Tiny sparrows need us. Fluffy street dogs need us.

I am envisioning her in a paradise surrounded by all the animals she loved, welcomed in with open arms (and paws!). I hope her childhood dog is snuggled up right beside her🩷🐶 I hope she feels how much she mattered. I hope to be more like her.

Love you, Dr. Goodall🩷🩷🩷

My heart is so sad to hear of the passing of Dr. J My heart is so sad to hear of the passing of Dr. Jane Goodall, a hero for animals, nature, and people🩷🩷🩷

I am also grateful for everything she taught us. Her love for all creatures, her passion for conservation, her wholehearted voice of hope inspired—and will continue to inspire—so many🩷🦋🌈

She was one of my heroes. And if she’s one of yours, too, I challenge us all to do something for animals or nature today in her memory. This can be as easy as leaving some leaves in your yard for butterflies and bees to winter in or giving your pup a kiss on the head.

If you want to know more about how Dr. Goodall has inspired me in my life, feel free to check out a post I wrote about her earlier this year:

Fall is for reflecting and nurturing our souls🍁🩷🍂 Fall is for reflecting and nurturing our souls🍁🩷🍂

This year, I’m concentrating on living the beautiful moments in the present and trying to take a pause (though we know it’s not easy, y’all!) from the heaviness of things even for a brief time.

I hope you get out in nature and enjoy the beauty. And if you need some ideas on what to actually do, check out my post here: https://katstano.com/fall-date-night-ideas/
