It’s World Bee Day and in their honor I’m thinking of ways I can help them thrive when lots of odds are against them.

This year, I’m saying no to any mosquito spray in my yard. And this is tough for me because I’m a walking BUFFET for mosquitoes!! Last year, I got bit by a mosquito in DECEMBER. People, they find me!

But I’m trying to lessen any toxins going out into the world so that these guys can survive.

So I’m working on natural tactics and will update with any findings! Do y’all have any tips? I’d love to hear them!

When you devote a patch of land for clover, violets, and dandelions to grow, you’re helping bees and other pollinators. These tiny guys are struggling, so if you can sneak by with even a little area in your backyard (because Cranky Carl across the street doesn’t need to know ALL your business), then you are helping out!

Hey, if I could somehow get by with a full-blown pumpkin patch in my front yard, you can probably go a little rogue, too. (See katstano.com for the whole story🎃)

(And if your neighborhood is way too fussy, plant some native flowers or just stick them in pots! This is also nice! 🌸🌼🌸🌼🌸🌼🌸🌼)

Pro Tip: Swear off toxic lawn chemicals that kill weeds and do other chemical-y, unnatural things to the land. This is hurting a lot of pollinators and critters. 😢 We’ve all got to BEE better, ya know? 🩷🐝🦋

Does hope have wings
or does it seem to quietly appear
as something soft and gentle
as a whisper in your ear?

Is hope a tiny miracle
descending from a prayer
or is it somehow guiding us?
And is it always there?

Can hope be found on stormy days
if only we believe?
Will hope become the bravest thing
to lift us when we grieve?

Should hope be what we hope for
when it’s hard to hope for more?
And will we still remember
all it’s healed in us before?

Could hope be but a dream
that stirs up something deep within?
Or maybe it’s a tiny sign
that tells us to begin?

Is hope an angel on our path
when we have lost our way?
Is hope the light that fills our hearts
when life feels dark and grey?

Is hope the reason trees are planted
and the flowers grow
and birds still sing their melodies?
