10+ Plant-Based Chocolate Halloween Candy You Can Hand Out or Hoard at Home

October 23, 2024 · In: Cruelty Free, Gifts

Summary

This is a quick list of dairy-free chocolates to make your Halloween even sweeter.

Last year, my Halloween candy bowl was all dairy-free, however my plant-based bowl was missing a key element: plant-based chocolate!

This is a bowl of mostly vegan candy, which inspired Kat to add plant-based chocolate the following year.
Peeps are unfortunately not vegan. They contain gelatin which is derived from animals. Many candies like gummies have gelatin, which is a bummer for those trying to go 100% vegan, It’s something I learned not too long ago and thought I’d share for anyone newly exploring dairy-free and/or animal-free products.

Hey, sweetie.

This page contains affiliate links, which means I may receive a commission if you make a purchase through my affiliate link at no extra cost to you.

(I know, I know. I was uncharacteristically one of THOSE houses. Not that that’s a bad thing for Sour Patch fans! Fun Fact: Sour Patch Kids are accidentally vegan in the U.S.)

Little did I know that there are some dairy-free and/or vegan chocolates out there. And I’ve been on a mission to find them!

If you’re looking for plant-based chocolate, I’ve compiled a list of candy that I like or get favorable and flavor-able reviews!

Plus, if you’re NOT like me and actually plan ahead with your Halloween candy versus running to the store 20 minutes before the trick-or-treaters arrive, then this list is for YOU!

ALSO. Do you have a hankering for chocolate candy, but either have a dairy allergy, lactose intolerance, or a vegan lifestyle? Here are some plant-based chocolates that you might like to try.

This post is all about plant-based chocolate that you can add to your candy bowl or treat jar.

One thing to consider:
Some of these chocolates are made using the same equipment that also makes food with milk products. Always do your research by double-checking ingredients and manufacturing locations.

Because…not all vegan-labeled products
are 100% vegan or automatically cruelty-free.
Sometimes this depends on suppliers and other practices,
like sourcing, labor, and animal-testing.

Delicious Plant-Based Chocolate: Peanut Butter Cups

7th Heaven Vegan Peanut Butter Cups

Okay, peanut butter cups! Also, I love the name of this brand. A great name always gets me!

Peanut butter cups are my favorite candy! Don’t give me a bag because I will devour it. My husband knows this, so I make him hide them in the house, but then I make him get the bag out and bring me one. OKAY, FOUR.

Unreal Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups

This is a brand I just discovered that creates a variety of plant-based chocolate and vegan treats. If you try them, let me know your favorite!

  • Unreal Dark Chocolate Quinoa Gems
  • Unreal Dark Chocolate Coconut Bars
  • Unreal Dark Chocolate Almond Butter Cups

Delicious Plant-Based Chocolate: Coconut, Caramel & Truffles

Cocomels Chocolate-Covered Sea Salt Coconut Milk Caramel Bites

Cocomels look scrumptious and have a variety of options to try! They use coconut milk and oat milk, depending on the treat.

  • Cocomels Dark Chocolate-Covered Bites in Vanilla
  • Cocomels Dark Chocolate-Covered Bites in Crispy Crunch
  • Cocomels Oatmilk Chocolate-Covered Bites
  • Cocomels Oatmilk Chocolate-Covered Toffee Bark

Larabar Double Chocolate Truffle

Larabar makes awesome vegan fruit bars, but this truffle thing is new to me. How could I not know about extra truffles?!

How to Decide on Plant-Based Options

I’m a perfectionist but FAR, FAR, FAR from perfect. My take on choosing plant-based chocolate and vegan foods is centered around a variety of things.

  1. Availability: If you can find these items at your price range, definitely go for it! One of the reasons I started this blog is to do the bulk of the research and compiling so you don’t have to. Not everyone likes to go down a rabbit hole for hours!
  2. 100% Vegan + Cruelty-Free + Ethical Practices + Sustainable Manufacturing: This is the dream, right? Some vegans go by super strict guidelines, which is so impressive to me. I really admire them. But I’ve also noticed that many vegans know nothing’s perfect and sometimes you have to get super close. Buying a plant-based item shows your care for animals and, many times, your health, so it creates demand and that tells brands, “Hey guys, we want this stuff!’ (Also, I’m not an economist, so seek ACTUAL pro economist advice for supply and demand!)
  3. Consider progress, not perfectionism: I limit many animal products in my diet, but I definitely am not to the point of doing it all. One of my main faults is being awful at cooking and creating meals, so I choose quick options a lot. It’s a journey for me, like I’m sure it is for you! Instead of feeling guilt all the time like I tend to do, I’m trying to give myself grace and slowly get better at making the choices that speak to my heart.

PETA is a good resource to check brands who are certified vegan.

Have Yourself a Happy Little Halloween

I hope I’ve given you some new sweets to check out that even more of us can enjoy. Let me know in the comments if you try any and tell me what you think!

Thanks, sweeties!

Psst…
If you have a nut allergy, milk allergy, or any other food allergies, make sure you read ALL the ingredients before trying new treats! Sometimes there can be cross-contamination at the food processing facilities.

There are all sorts of tiny ones living their live There are all sorts of tiny ones living their lives among us, quietly, softly. And if we stop to notice, it can help us to live a little softer, too.

I hope you find many miracles this fall to gently touch your heart♥️🍁

This fall, maybe we all can be lazy for the earth! This fall, maybe we all can be lazy for the earth! Leave the leaves! 🍁🍂🍁

“Say, girl, what are you even talking about now?”

Instead of raking and bagging up every leaf, let them stay.

Let them stay in flower beds or make a new flower bed with your leaves!

Let them be mulch for your trees!

Let them lightly pile up in corners for critters and pollinators to survive the winter🩷🦋🐝🐞🐰🩷

How do you do this and avoid the wrath of the neighbors? Maybe let them know what you’re doing and why. Maybe they’ll join in, too! (Or not!)

“And again, WHY am I doing this?”

Fallen leaves are nature’s way of taking care of itself. Nutrients for the soil and plants, places to lay eggs for butterflies, and little leafy blankets for wildlife…it’s all connected!

If you have lots of leaves and don’t know where to start, leave a note in the comments and I’ll try my best to share some ideas🩷🩷🩷

It’s fall and I love y’all!💛🧡♥️

I read Reason For Hope by Dr. Jane Goodall earlier I read Reason For Hope by Dr. Jane Goodall earlier this year. I actually listened through audiobooks which was even better because I could hear her gentle, English voice sharing her wisdom with me.

Jane was a kindred spirit to animals and nature…a pure soul. That’s why I was so drawn to her: her kindness, her sincerity, her bravery to love in a world that doesn’t always love us back.

But she is so loved. And we can show that love through our actions just like she did.

Pollinators need us. Tiny sparrows need us. Fluffy street dogs need us.

I am envisioning her in a paradise surrounded by all the animals she loved, welcomed in with open arms (and paws!). I hope her childhood dog is snuggled up right beside her🩷🐶 I hope she feels how much she mattered. I hope to be more like her.

Love you, Dr. Goodall🩷🩷🩷

My heart is so sad to hear of the passing of Dr. J My heart is so sad to hear of the passing of Dr. Jane Goodall, a hero for animals, nature, and people🩷🩷🩷

I am also grateful for everything she taught us. Her love for all creatures, her passion for conservation, her wholehearted voice of hope inspired—and will continue to inspire—so many🩷🦋🌈

She was one of my heroes. And if she’s one of yours, too, I challenge us all to do something for animals or nature today in her memory. This can be as easy as leaving some leaves in your yard for butterflies and bees to winter in or giving your pup a kiss on the head.

If you want to know more about how Dr. Goodall has inspired me in my life, feel free to check out a post I wrote about her earlier this year:

Fall is for reflecting and nurturing our souls🍁 Fall is for reflecting and nurturing our souls🍁🩷🍂

This year, I’m concentrating on living the beautiful moments in the present and trying to take a pause (though we know it’s not easy, y’all!) from the heaviness of things even for a brief time.

I hope you get out in nature and enjoy the beauty. And if you need some ideas on what to actually do, check out my post here: https://katstano.com/fall-date-night-ideas/
